I Guess I Do Have Something To Say

Recently, I entered a screenplay competition. It was read by two so-called prestigous people and I got some feedback on it. The first review, if you will, was quite positive and uplifting. They said my screenplay was reminiscent of The Breakfast Club, a movie by John Hughes, which was quite amazing, considering he's someone I really look up to. The person stated my screenplay wasn't a "rip-off but rather a homage." I think that's pretty cool.

However, the second reviewer said my characters didn't have personality and that many teens, out in the real world, have to go through the same problems as my characters. The person took this as a negative but I think that's what I'm going for. I want to make movies that people can actually relate to, unlike what's lately been created in Hollywood. I don't really know how others feel about movies that are being made today, but I sure think truth and reality need to be brought in, and that's what I'm hoping to achieve when my stories take the screen.

To conclude, I now know what improvements I need to make with this screenplay and I'm so thankful for all the feedback. I plan for this to be my third movie so, until then, I've got to get working! These other screenplays aren't going to write themselves.

  1. Very well-written :) Congratulations is in order as well for your screenplay. I really like that you stand up for your ideas and characters because honestly, who are these people but upity know-it-alls who sometimes get the artiste wrong? You go with what you feel is right because as the creator behind the story, who is a genious for paying homage to The Breakfast Club and not ripping it off, YOU call the shots.
